Mike McDonnell
A quite varied career that covers the military, the EPA and other projects.
Born to a career Navy family, Mike McDonell grew up moving across the country and around the world. He is a lifelong Democrat who supported Adlai Stevenson in 1952 at the age of 8 and every Democratic presidential candidate since. He has served his country in and out of uniform for 34 years. Mike is a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and an alumnus of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he worked as a writer/editor/ press officer for 27 years “from its infancy to its senility.” He embraces his membership in the “Deep State.” Mike is co-founder of the Memorial Day Writers’ Project which provided an artistic venue for veterans and their supporters and which was a presence at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC for over 30 years. He has taught classes in the literature of the Vietnam War and has taken veterans and historians back to Vietnam as a tour guide. He continues to support veterans and a local soup kitchen. He has taken veterans back to Vietnam and taught a course on the literature of the War. Professionally, he was a writer and editor at the EPA from 1973-2000 and a 31 year veteran of the U.S. Civil Service aka the Deep State
