DAVID LAUDERDALE
David Lauderdale retired as senior editor and columnist at The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette in 2020, but he still writes one column per week for the paper. He started at The Packet in 1977 and became the face of the paper in his roles as reporter, news editor, managing editor, editorial page editor and columnist. His writing on the environment, mental health, the Gullah culture, literacy and local history and culture have won many statewide and regional awards. In the community, his honors include being Hilton Head Island’s St. Patrick’s Parade grand marshal, and winner of the chamber’s Good Citizenship Award and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award. He is included the book, “Legendary Locals of Hilton Head Island.”
His presentation will focus on "Start the Presses: The State of Media Today." Including some local anecdotes. He will overview what he has witnessed as a professional and as a consumer and share his perspectives.
